What materials can be donated?
Donations can include, but are not limited to:
-Carpet samples (loose samples only 12" x 12" or smaller)
-Fabric samples (memo samples only, no chain sets)
-Glass samples (smaller than 12" x 12")
-Tile samples (smaller than 12" x 12")
-Stone samples (smaller than 12" x 12")
-Metal samples (smaller than 12" x 12")
-Wood samples
-Laminate samples
Please DO NOT donate: sweets catalogs, code books, binders, material boards (i.e. brick boards), or anything that could not be easily incorporated into a project.
Does Spec Simple provide boxes? What size are they?
We request firms use copy paper sized boxes (banker boxes - see the link below for an example). This method guarantees consistent box size and eases the loading and transfer process for our drivers.
The standard paper box (banker box) is 12 x 10 x 15 Inches.
Do Design Firm participants have to contact box sponsors on their own?
No, Save A Sample! contacts sponsors for you. Simply include the name and contact info of at least 5 potential sponsors on your sign up form. We contact the sponsors on behalf of your firm. To win one of Save A Sample's! great prizes, we recommend you follow-up with your sponsors to ensure a donation is made.

Who should I ask to sponsor my boxes?
Anyone you have a good relationship with (i.e. manufacturer's reps) can be considered as a potential "box" sponsor.
Are box sponsors obligated to donate?
No, whomever you suggest as a box sponsor is not mandated to donate. Reps receive requests from multiple design firms and may need to limit support.
Your list of reps are not required to donate on your behalf.
Can our Design Firm participate if we do not provide potential box sponsors or self-sponsor?
Yes, but we do ask for your support if it is possible. The purpose of Save A Sample! is not only to recycle literature and samples, but to fund our scholarships. If you can self-sponsor by donating at least $150, we would greatly appreciate it.
What is the maximum weight for each box?
35 pounds
Where does Save A Sample! take place?
Save A Sample! is a multi-location event. Previous events have taken place in US design markets such as: Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Haven, New York City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, Washington DC, and Wilmington.
Save A Sample! Canada has taken place in design markets such as: Montreal, Ottowa, Toronto, Vancouver, and Winnipeg.
Is Save A Sample! a 501(c)3?
Save A Sample! is a 501(c)(3) please talk to your accounting team about your donation(s). Our tax ID is 27-2065837
Can my donations be picked up outside of the three day Save A Sample! event dates?
No. Unfortunately, Save A Sample! does not own its own trucks. Delivery teams who participate in Save A Sample! have volunteered their services and are only available during the days specified for the event.
Can firms other than A&D firms donate materials?
Yes. Manufacturers or representatives who wish to donate materials are welcome to participate in Save A Sample! if they also do one of the following:
1. Sign up to participate as a delivery partner and donate a truck and driver for one of the event dates.
2. Become a city or national sponsor. To become a sponsor, please contact [email protected] for our sponsorship package.
Do I have to be present at the celebration in New York City to win a prize? (New York Design Firm participants only.)
Yes, the purpose of the Save A Sample! celebration is to commemorate the efforts of our industry participants. If you are unable to attend the celebration, you will need to send a representative on your behalf to claim your prize (your representative will need to RSPV). If you can't attend and don't have a representative, then your prize will go to the next "boxer" in line.
What forms of payment are accepted for Save A Sample! Donations?
SpecSimple accepts American Express, MasterCard, VISA, and checks. Checks should be made out to Save A Sample! and mailed to PO Box 340, Great Neck, NY 11022. We do accept PayPal donations, please click on the donate page for a link.
