New York City, NY, April 28, 2016– Over a hundred designers, design schools, sponsors, and press gathered to celebrate the successful conclusion of SpecSimple.com’s Save A Sample! 2016, a nation-wide materials and sample recycling drive. Held at the beautiful Grohe Showroom, the Celebration featured a much anticipated presentation from the KPF design team on “Making Cities and Buildings Resilient to the Effects of Climate Change.”
Save A Sample!, sponsored by Wilsonart/Arborite and Formica, saw it’s most successful year yet. Over a hundred design firms participated nationally saving 27,000 pounds of material from landfills diverting them instead to local design schools for students to use on their projects. Save A Sample! raised over $10,000 in design school scholarships and awarded a Grand Prize to Bonan Sun of Pratt Institute for winning the Student Hand Drawing Competition. Prizes were distributed to our top boxes from Ted Moudis Associates, Perkins + Will, di Domenico + Partners, GRID/3 International, KPF, Mitchell Giurgola Architects, and Pfeiffer Partners.
“It was a wonderful evening,” exclaimed Suzanne Swift, Save A Sample!’s Founder and President of SpecSimple.com. It’s a win-win when our industry comes together to support our students and our environment.”
“We were delighted to host the Save a Sample event—the organization is driving an important cause in the design community that fits with Grohe's culture of responsibility and resource conservation,” said Antonia Koller, manager of the Grohe Live! Center. “We are inspired by their good work, and support their mission to create a second life for unused materials and raise awareness for sustainable living.”
Save A Sample! takes place each April. Visit www.SaveASample.org for more details or email us at email@example.com to be notified of next year’s event.

New York City, NY, March 15, 2016– SpecSimple.com’s Save A Sample! Celebration focuses the spotlight on sustainability. Marking the end of Save A Sample!, a nation-wide non-profit recycling drive sponsored by Wilsonart/Arborite (Platnium) and Formica (Gold), the Save A Sample! Celebration brings together design firms and design schools to celebrate, award scholarships and prizes, and highlight new sustainable trends in design.
This year’s timely topic is Making Cities and Buildings Resilient to the Effects of Climate Change. “Making cities and buildings resilient to the effects of climate change has become one of the most fundamental goals of sustainability,” says Bruce Fisher of KPF who along with a team of KPF designers will be Save A Sample! 2016’s featured speaker. “The devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy in New York City, while creating restrictions in where and how we build, has simultaneously opened up positive transformations in the form and design of various types of public space.”
KPF will discuss several projects including Red Hook Housing, the Redevelopment of Far Rockaway, and Hudson Yards where the very real threat of flooding has created creative responses to the form and use of open space.
The Save A Sample! Celebration will take place on April 27th and is graciously hosted by Knoll in their centrally located New York City Showroom.
